Now it's offical we have watched a one month long football spectacular to see Brazil hold it's record breaking fifth World Cup.Brazil who struggled in the qualifiers and who were underdogs in the World Cup beat Germany 2-0 in Yokohamma,Japan on June 30th.Germany were also an underdog team in the world cup but prooved they could make it as far to the final. Many thought that if the score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half the Germans would be crowned World Champs but Brazil fought back with two goals from superstar striker Ronaldo.

Germany´s captain Oliver KAHN became the first goalkeeper to win the adidas Golden Ball Award for a FIFA World Cup final competition. The 33-year old, whose heroic saves saw Germany through to the Final, obtained 25% of the votes cast by the media present at the third-place match in Daegu and the Final in Yokohama.

The adidas Golden Shoe Award of the 2002 FIFA World Cup goes to Ronaldo who increased his total to eight goals. Joint second are Brazil´s Rivaldo and Miroslav Klose of Germany with 5 goals and 1 assist each.
Ronaldo´s total is the highest since Gerd Mueller scored ten goals in six matches in Mexico in 1970. Ever since 1974 (Grzegorz Lato/POL, 7 goals) the best goalscorer had always totalled six goals.
The adidas Golden Shoe Award goes to the top goalscorer of the FIFA World Cup. Assists serve as a tie-breaker with the FIFA Technical Study Group deciding whether an assist is to be counted as such.

Germany 2006
The DFB had the honour on two previous occasions to host international events. And twice the name of Hermann Neuberger symbolised the both efficient and hospitable organisation. He was DFB president from 1975 until 1992, as well as being president of the FIFA organising committee for almost two decades, during which he was responsible for the organisation of the World Cup finals from 1974 until 1990.

Sixteen teams competed in the 1974 World Cup. A total of 1.8 million spectators (average attendance of 46,685 visitors per game) watched the 38 matches in 10 different cities of the then West Germany. The response was even better at EURO ' 88, with eight teams competing in nine cities. Then 935,681 visitors purchased tickets, and twelve of the total 15 matches enjoyed sell-out crowds, with an average per game of 62,379 fans. Former UEFA secretary general Hans Bangerter from Switzerland, wrote on his retirement:
"I worked 35 years in football. EURO ' 88 was the best event I ever experienced."

The increase to 32 participating countries in the World Cup naturally brings extra demands. UEFA president Lennart Johansson: "Only five countries in Europe could achieve the requirements; Germany, England, France, Italy and Spain."

For the first time, the 2006 World Cup offers the opportunity for the east of Germany, formerly East Germany, to be included as hosts. This has already been achieved on a lower lever at the 1997 European junior championships.

World Cup Report
Now it's offical from 32 teams that fought hard to compete in the world cup only 1 has the right to call themselves world champions. It has been a very confusing world cup and who would have known Brazil would come out on top.A lot of skilled teams went home after being eliminated and that includes big names like France and Argentina. Both of those teams had the best odds of winning the world cup and to everyones surprise they got eliminated.Italy having an allstar roster went out in the round of 16.Senegal who were in their first world cup showed the world what African football is all about.Despite having a lot of injuries and having trouble in the preliminaries Germany fought really hard to make an appreance in the final and to clinch second place.I bid farewell to Korea and Japan and hope that the eliminated teams will be luckier in Germany 2006.
